The power of PCubed. Purpose, Passion and a Plan.

Purpose, Passion and a Plan.

My PCubed Formula. Simple, universally applicable, and versatile.

It is applicable to a presentation, to a start-up and to Life.

I always ask my students and mentees

Do you have a Purpose for your actions?

Are you Passionate about what you are doing?

Do you have a Plan on how to get there?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, I ask them to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch.

Start with your Purpose, the reason for which you are doing something power it with Passion, or an intense desire or enthusiasm for what you are doing and support it with a Plan on how you are going to achieve it.

Passion is an essential ingredient for both communication and life. However, it can only carry you so far. You need to give it legs if you want it to take you further. The foundation for your passion should be built with a purpose or the objective that you want to achieve. While I am not advocating a life without spontaneity you still need to have a purpose for the more important things that you undertake and a specific course of action on how you are going to get there.

PCubed started as part of my communication course. Be it a simple email, a difficult conversation with an employee, an elevator pitch, or even a conversation with a relative you need to be clear about the purpose and how to take it forward. I then realised that it could be applied anywhere if I could add the passion to the mix.

Starting with your elevator pitch.

Can you channelise your passion for the idea that you are building into a start up with the objective of getting an angel investorto listen to what you have to say in 30 seconds? The plan of action here is how you say it so that the person invites you for a second meeting or conversation.

Another example. Suppose you have an employee who is not achieving his or her full potential your purpose here is to find out why this is happening. The passion here is to provide an empathetic sounding board to understand why the employee is holding back and the plan of action is to work out a mutually acceptable solution which the employee can own.

This sounds easy, but it isn’t.

The trick here is to start with what you hope to achieve through any interaction, channelise what you want to say to answer the WIIFT (What’s In It For Them) for the audience that you are addressing support it with only those facts and figures which are relevant and deliver it with the conviction required to meet the purpose you started out with.

So, this simple PCubed formula helps you channelise your passion into achieving a purpose and takes it forward into a specific course of action.

Try it.
